Alien movies
Alien horror is first contact where contact goes badly. What separates it from science fiction is the direction of the curiosity: the film is not interested in what they are, only in what they intend and how long you have.
The 1950s ran them as Cold War anxiety, about infiltration and about the bomb. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is the one that has kept working through every reading of it, including the ones its own makers rejected. The Thing from Another World made the visitor an outright threat and set the military and the scientists against each other over what to do with it.
Alien set the modern template by making the ship a workplace and the crew employees, and Signs watched a worldwide invasion entirely from inside one family's farm, which is a different trick and a harder one.
