Killer doll movies

A killer doll is a horror premise about not being believed. The thing is inanimate whenever anyone else is looking, the person who has seen it move is usually a child, and the film is the wait for one adult to take them seriously.

The idea is much older than the franchise that now owns it, and the ventriloquist's dummy version reaches back at least to Dead of Night. Trilogy of Terror gave it one of its most durable half-hours in 1975, with a Zuni fetish doll that comes alive the moment the chain holding its spirit falls off, and Magic took the dummy back toward a psychological reading.

Child's Play is where the subgenre got its franchise, and its horror is that nobody believes Andy, including his mother, until far too late. M3GAN rebuilt the premise around a doll possessed by nothing except its own instructions, and one that is neither small nor slow.
